I was asked to a confidential briefing...

I was asked to a confidential briefing at a government department. When I arrived they wanted to see my photo ID (I don't carry any). So they wanted to see my bank card. This is absurd. Given that it was specifically me they invited me to a briefing, presumably it was because they know me and had some reason to want me to be there.

Wibbi government allowed its interactions with people to be as human as possible?

Josh W notes: If they want an ID they should send it out to you, then check with you that you got it via whatever means they invited you, just like this very website authenticates by email. Perhaps a special code or phone number on the invite?

Banks seem to manage that fine with their debit cards!

Or is there a danger that you could give the ID to someone else? Well if they can't trust you to keep the ID or inform them of theft they probably can't trust you to invite you in!
