Dealing with crime

In crimes not involving injury to persons, the punishment actually involved improving the local comunity in which the criminal lived or the crime was committed.

That way rather that society being 'punished' twice - first by the offence itself and then again in having to pay a fortune for the cost of keeping the criminal in prison (it is eatimated keeping someone in prison costs a year us on average 40 000 GBP) we actually get something out of it. And if the criminal is in work they can keep their job so again society benefits in not having to pay them benefits!

Josh W notes: Community service then? I think this is pretty much what already happens, but some people are put in prison not merely because of injury, but because them being out and about means that they will intimidate and damage the local community through other means.

For example, we probably wouldn't want a drug dealer continuing his day job!
