Jeni Brindle notes: With a son who has numerous kidney problems & had to attend a variety of hospital appointments at hospitals upto 60 miles away, the cost of car parking is astronomical! Esp. if you stay with your child overnight, you are extra penalised or worse, if your appointment is cancelled then you have to pay regardless. Further, with three children, myself and my hubby have to go to and from our local hospital when he is admitted and it costs us £1.80 to £5.00 a go, which can be up to four times a day depending on school runs and length of stay. We may now have a choice on hospital but the management have a free reign on charges, varying from centre to centre, as patients and visitors have no other alternatives.

Joe notes: I totally agree, i am a disabled parent and have to go to the hospital for treatment and to see my consultants many times a month, i also have 2 children who are under consultants for blood disorders. Parking at our local hospital is awful, you have to queue to get in sometimes up to half and hour and then when you do get in your appointment is late which means instead of paying for 1 hour you end up paying for the upto 4 hours which is a big difference. I have a blue badge and can park on double yellows with no loading restrictions providing that it is safe to do so. But there is no where near the hospital the is not restricted or permit parking which forces you into the hospital car parks. I could use a bus, but it would take me 4 buses to get there and back and around 2 hours of travelling, but with 2 children and a wheelchair getting on a bus without carer support is extremely hard. I think that for anyone who visits a hospital for an appointment the parking should be free, or at the very least a nominal amount.
